Our Orthopaedic Trauma team specializes in diagnosing and treating a wide range of bone and joint injuries, from the most severe, complex fractures to more moderate or routine injuries that still require expert care. Combined, our trauma surgeon team has over 100 years of experience.
Our trauma specialists are equipped to manage a broad spectrum of injuries, including:
Complex fractures involve multiple breaks, joints, or weight-bearing bones such as the pelvis or acetabulum. While often associated with high-energy trauma, these injuries can also occur in older adults from low-energy falls, particularly if bone density is low.
These common fractures often result from everyday incidents like slips on ice, tripping on stairs, sports activities, or minor falls.
Joints can be dislocated by forceful twisting, falls, or even bumping into something the wrong way, especially in the shoulder, elbow, finger, hip, or knee.
Fragility fractures occur from low-impact incidents, like standing-height falls, and are most common in older adults with reduced bone density. The wrist, hip, and spine are frequently affected.
When a fracture doesn’t heal at all (nonunion) or heals in the wrong position (malunion), it may be due to inadequate stabilization, poor blood supply, or underlying health issues.
Traumatic injuries often involve not just bones but also muscles, ligaments, tendons, and skin. These injuries are common in both low-impact and high-impact events.
